Different Directions

The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.
Romans 16:20
I asked Aaron Job about the image at the bottom of this page. He said, "That's me and Satan in a boat. We're rowing in different directions." He drew this after hearing his Sunday school teacher use this illustration to explain how Satan is always working against us.

BTW: Though I thought he knew better, I went ahead and made sure that Aaron Job knew the Devil really doesn't have horns and a pitchfork. :)

Chin First

I was bad hurt when I fell off my bike. I fell chin first. I was doing a stunt. I was standing on the pedals with one hand off. I swerved and flew off my bike. I busted my chin and blood was splatered on my chin. I cried and cried and cried. My dad came and so did a neighbor. I needed two band aids. I felt bad because I was good at riding my bike.

We went downstairs and

*This is a bit of an embellishment on Aaron Job's part. However, we did take cover in the bathroom because the tornado sirens were going off. BTW, those are blankets flapping in the wind as the two children descend the stairs heading for cover. This is the tornado that missed us by only a few miles.

Servants and Singers T-Shirt Design

Servants and Singers is the 3rd - 6th grade children's choir at our church. They're having a contest to come up with a t-shirt design. This is Aaron Job's design concept. He found the Bible verse all by himself, after I showed him how to use a concordance.

Servants and Singers
Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving, make melody to our God in the lyre. Psalm 147:7

And The Winner Is...

Our apologies to all the participants in the Star Wars "Guess Who?" contest. We've made you all wait four months for the winner to be revealed. We sorted through all the correct entries and put them in a 50 gallon barrel and drew a winner.

Ok - actually there was only one participant... and she got the correct answer... no barrel... she wins! Congratulations to Autumn for guessing "Darth Vader!" She wins an autographed picture of Luke Skywalker drawn by Aaron Job.

Autumn, you may email us to claim your prize!

Star Wars: The Next Generation

My apologies to you Trekkies out there for mixing movie titles, but it seemed appropriate. Over this past Christmas break while Aaron Job was out of school & I was enjoying extended vacation time provided by my gracious employer, I decided to introduce my son to the world of Star Wars.
Despite our noble desires to manage, maintain & minimize the media consumption of our children, I threw caution to the wind and borrowed the entire set of DVD's from a friend of mine. Over the course of about two weeks, we watched every episode... all six of them... all 803 minutes (minus the graphic scenes where Anakin melts into Darth Vader) - plus some of the bonus features. Now you know why there were'nt any new posts on Aaron Job Draws!
Needless to say, the boy loved it! Aaron Job enjoyed them as well. I can still remember seeing the first three (or is it the last three?) in theatres - including the Cinema 150 in Little Rock, featuring a "dome roof and a 120 degree curved screen". This theatre closed in 2003 - being the last one of it's kind in the country.
Quick story - I know you want to get to the drawings - which have been all but extinct since before Christmas! Anyway - my friend was approaching aforementioned theatre to see Empire Strikes Back while the previous showing was letting out. As satisfied viewers filed out of one of the side exit doors, my friend heard someone say (way too loud) to another, "MAN! I CAN'T BELIEVE DARTH VADER IS LUKE'S FATHER". Guess they didn't have spoiler alerts back then!

Well - Aaron Job has several drawings inspired by the Star Wars saga and I'll begin with this one & post others throughout the following days. And - if I see that he still has a few faithful followers (your comments will be a good indicator), we'll host a Star Wars contest at Aaron Job's request with a grand prize being a handdrawn portrait of Luke Skywalker- who's hair will glow under a blacklight! (Aaron Job didn't plan it that way, it's just that the only yellow marker he could find was one of my highlighters.)

The following was a school assignment, I think.

Aaron Job Shoots

I know this blog is for Aaron Job's drawings, but I thought I'd break protocol & post some of his photographs. The great thing about digital cameras is that you can let your 7 year old son go crazy & you haven't lost any money on wasted film! These pics were taken over the last 12 to 18 months. All of these were taken by Aaron Job w/ no help from any adults.

Now, granted, for every one in-focus shot, there were about a dozen that weren't.

I'm still trying to figure out how to take decent close up shots with that camera...

I'm usually aware of most of Aaron Job's drawings - either as he's drawing a picture or soon after it's complete. However, some time ago I ran across a stash of drawings that I'd never seen before. This post will be the first in a new category called "CBD Fun!". Aaron Job has been drawing these comics for quite a while now, and I wasn't sure if he was copying from the Sunday Comics or from a cartoon in some of his magazines. I finally asked him if he made it up and he said, "yes". Then I asked what "CBD" stood for.

"It stands for CRACKS BY DAD," he answered.
"Cracks?" I questioned.
"Yeah cracks. You know - jokes."
"Oh! I get it - cool. So... am I the dad in the comic?" I asked proudly.
"No."

The Snow Monster

For those of you who have read Aaron Job's first work of fiction, "The Haunted House", you might remember his list of "other books".
In actuality, he hadn't written any of them at the time "The Haunted House" was published, but he's been working on it. I'm pleased to present book #2 today, featuring our friends Chet, Nick and Zac (and sister, Holly) in ... "The Snow Monster".
Enjoy

The Snow Monster

It was a very snowy day when the boys woke up. The night after thay were so excited about the snow thay couldn't sleep!

We got to tell Holly abuot this! said Chet. (Holly was thier sister). Thay went into her room to wake her up.

Holly, Holly! Nick wispered. We have to show you somthing!

What is it you want to show me? asked Holly. Another of your robots you make out of legos?

No, no, no. Said Nick. It's the day you've been waiting for. He added.
A SNOW DAY! Holly burst out.
Right! He said.

After breakfest, the kids went outside to play. when they went outside they saw a very big pile of snow. And out of that very big pile of snow rose a very big snow monster!

This will keep us safe! Said Nick as he built a snow fort. But the snow monsters foot came crashing to the ground making the snow fort fall apart!

Suddently, Chet popped up with a idea. He got his sling-shot and rock's. He pulled the rubber band back and let go. Over and over he did it until the snow monster was nothing but snow.

The end.

Mood Swings

I tried a little experiment the other day with Aaron Job. It seems that several visitors have commented on his ability to show facial expressions on his characters. So, I listed eight "moods" on paper and had him to draw a face showing each one.
Here are the moods, in random order:

MAD

SUPRISED

THINKING

CONFUSED

SAD

WORRIED

EXCITED

LOVING

Now, can you match the drawings to the correct mood? You might even try it without looking at the options above. How 'bout for the winner (to the first one who guesses all 8 correctly) - a personalized, autographed drawing from Aaron Job? Submit your answers like this:

1. SAD
2. LOVING
3. SUPRISED
ETC.

Flip - The Day Dreamer

We introduced Aaron Job's first tribute to Flip a few days ago. You can watch one here. Or purchase them here. I think I'm going to buy Aaron Job a copy to reward his efforts.

As a special treat - Flip's creator, Kirk Demarais, has stopped by and put his seal of approval on "Aliens", as well as giving it some special recognition:

Kirk D. has left a new comment on your post "Flip - Aliens":
Hey Aaron [Job], This is amazing!I just posted about it on my own blog. I'm really happy that Flip has inspired you. You've done a great job capturing the essence of the character while putting your own touch on it. I can tell that Flip loved his flying saucer ride!Keep up the great work!

Mater and the Ghostlight

SPOILER WARNING: If you haven't seen this Pixar "special feature" on the Pixar Cars DVD, then you'd better not read on, the secret of the Ghost Light will be revealed!
For the rest of you, as promised...

"Mater and the Ghost Light"
by Aaron Job
from Disney Pixar Cars
based on the movie Cars

One night in Radiator Springs,

Mater was playing tricks on the other cars.

First, he used his hook to pull away the flowers Red was watering.

Next, he jumped out of a pile of tires,

and Luigi and Guido fell over!

Then, Mater snuck up on Lizzy, who would not wake up

when he was being silly.

Then he snuk outside with a cone on his head.

Then he jumped up and showed

his "conse".

And then, when Fillmore took away one can of gas,
Mater added one.

The last trick happend at Flo's Cafe.

Mater jumped out of a pile of cans.

Then he said to McQueen:

Tonight we're going to see the Ghost Light"

Mater! Said Sherif. Don't talk about the Ghost Light to him!

What is the Ghost Light? McQueen asked.

The Ghost Light, said Sherif, is a glowing oar"

He drove around while he was saying this.

And the only thing that angers it the most, is clanging of metel.

Everyone was not scared exsept Mater.

He was scared.

And when you go home, Sherif was saying,

keep an eye out for the Ghost Light. It could be any ware, he said.

Well, goodnight.

Good night. Mater mumbled.

He drove home. One of his lights fell off and it was his last one.

When the door of Mater's house came down, it fell down.

Then he saw a light.

Help the Ghost Light! He yelled.

Then he noticed that it was a lightning bug.

Then Mater saw another light.
Ahhhhh! The Ghost Light! He shouted.
McQueen and Guido looked at each other and smiled.

Ahhhhh! The Ghost Light!

It's in front of me! Yelled Mater.

He was not seeing that it was a lantern.

Finally, Mater stoped for a rest.

Then he noticed the lantern.

Hey, he said, that's no Ghost Light! It's a lantern!

He added.

Just then Doc and Sherif and the other cars arrived.

Mater, said Sherif, the only thing you need to be afraid of

is your imagination.

Yah, said Doc. And the Screaming Banshee.

Well good night.

Thay all went home.

The Screaming what? Wondered Mater.

With a Big, Big, Big monster truck behind him,

he said you'd better run

a Screaming Banshee could be anyware.

Veggin' Out

Anybody remember Mrs. Polly's Paint Box? You know, Cecil the Cat...PBS show...she teaches you how to draw?

No?

Well I do. I remember when I would get to stay home from school when sick, sit in bed and this show would come on during the morning. I would get my pencils & drawing paper and learn from the pros.

The following drawings were a result of Aaron Job sitting in our bed (he wasn't sick though) and watching this video (pictured at right and ON SALE right now for $4.95!!). He watched & learned from the Veggie artists just as I used to watch Mrs. Polly almost thirty years ago.

I added the color to them, and adjusted the contrast a bit so you could better see the lines.

Madame Blueberry

Um...uh...the pea guys or maybe cherry-Bobs...no idea ??

Carrots... in Perspective

Correction: One carrot in perspective...the guy up front is Jr. Asparagus. I should've known by the "do".

Jimmy and Jerry

And my personal favorite - Mr. Lundt!! Here, playing the role of Haman. Personally, I happen to like his role as one of "the pirates who don't do anything." Favorite lines: "You look like Captain Crunch... You're making me hungry."

The Answer to "Guess Who?"

Did you figure out who it was? If you guessed:

...you'd be right! It's Pastor John MacArthur! Aaron Job drew this picture of him last fall when Pastor MacArthur preached at the Bible Church of Little Rock.

Dr. MacArthur is pastor/teacher at Grace Community Church and can be heard daily on the radio broadcast, Grace To You. His ministry of preaching and books have ministered to this family tremendously.

The first correct answer was David "The Thirsty Theologian". He wins the prize - which is a John MacArthur sermon on CD. However, from the looks & links on his blog, I'll be he has every MacArthur sermon already! :o) So David, email me and we'll work something out...maybe I can substitue a Piper CD instead!

There were actually several of you who guessed John MacArthur - despite being tricked by the "younger" hairstyle, as David noted. So, I might just be overly generous and give all the correct answers a MacArthur sermon on CD.

Let's just do that! If you guessed John MacArthur, send me an email with your mailing address & I'll put a cd in the mail to you!

If you like to talk to tomatoes, if a squash can makes you smile, if you like to waltz with potatoes up and down the produce aisle - Have we got a blog for you! Stay tuned...posting this weekend are Aaron Job's next drawings.

Can you guess what they are?

Thanks to all the new readers of Aaron Job Draws. We've had a pleasant response & are glad you're enjoying the drawings. From this point on, we'll try to post only one or two drawings each week - unless it's another riveting story like The Haunted House. We wouldn't dare let such anxiety build for that long!

So, to celebrate the first inaugural week of Aaron Job Draws, we're going to have a contest!!

Can you guess

who this well known preacher is?

FIRST CORRECT ANSWER WINS A PRIZE!!

Leave your name & your guess in the comments section

and we'll reveal the answer and the prize at noon Friday, January 19th.

I thank she's at the haunted house next door, said Zac scared.

Maby she is! Said Chet.

Ya thanck so? Asked Zac. Well, let's go!

Not...so...fast. Said Nick. First we'll pack up.

So thay packed up:

1 flashlite

1 Juice pop

and last, but not least, a sord.

Zac didn't know were the backpack was, but Nick showed him.

Is that all? Asked Zac.

Uh hu. Said Chet. It's all we need.

Before thay left, Chet asked, What time is it?

8:30 said Zac.

OK. Now, let's go.

Thair neighbors were scared. Scared of the haunted house.

The boys were not.

Finally, the boys arrived.

Spooky, hu[h]? Said Chet.

Wow, Yah, Spooky. Said Nick.

To be continued...

The Haunted House - Part Three

Zac saw a hill.

I wonder were that hill leads to. He thought.

He [went] up the hill and came down an opening in the hill

He was nearing the ground, when he noticed a little girl.

Maby it was his sister.

She was his sister!

Neither did thay notice a gohst sneaking up on them...BOO!

Before [the] gohst grapped him, he discovered a door. A little door in which a kye was hiddin.

Zac openend the door and found the kye!

He unlocket the door that led right outside.

BAM. He closed the door tighly and locked it.

His sister was outside to.

He didn't know the ghost sliped out of the hole in the window.

And again, to be continued (feel the anxiety yet?)...

The Haunted House - Part Four

Continuing in our 5 part series of installments of "The Haunted House", by Aaron Job...

Suddenly Zac heard a noise.

OO - OO - OO - OO.

AAAAAAH! He cried! It was the ghost!

Hey! Chet Nick! Help! He yelled.

Oh, uh, Zac! We'r, uh, glad your back.

Look behind me! Zac said.

AAAAAAAAAH! All four shouted.

To be continued (last time, I promise)...

The Haunted House - Part Five

Here, at last, is the final segment in the 5 part series "The Haunted House" by Aaron Job

Yikes! Yelled Chet. He was so scared. He fell over.

As soon as he touched the ground, a smell sprayed out of a bottle in the back of the backpack.
It was strong in the air.

The smell was so strog, it made the ghost disapier.

The boys were heroes. Everybody was safe.

Thay saw that it was perfume that had made the smell.

Thancks to the perfume nothing was left of the haunted house.

Prophecy Fulfilled

Don't mean to beat a dead horse (or, deer, as the case may be). But I've had this drawing - as indicated - for over a year now. Created by my deer slaying son, his prophetic vision indeed came to pass this past November. In case you need a reminder, click here for the rest of the story.

I'm not sure if my son's drawing depicts me actually shooting the deer (note the smoking barrel on the serious firearm I'm toting), or if he thinks I stabbed the poor mammal to death!
